P1 LEADS HOME BROADBAND MARKET SHARE GROWTH WITH 4G WIMAX
World’s leading 4G WiMAX operator gained highest new fixed broadband net subscriber add in Q3.
PETALING JAYA - Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (“P1”), the world’s leading 4G WiMAX telco recently announced that it has recorded its highest ever new net subscriber add in a quarter. P1 saw its new net subscriber number grow from 25,000 in Q2 to over 36,000 subscribers in Q3 2009, an increase of over 40% of its subscriber base.
The massive growth in new subscribers indicates P1’s rapid pace to meet very ambitious targets within 2009 and deliver its Broadband for All promise. P1’s much talked about “Potong” advertising and promotion campaign has also been a contributing factor to the strong growth in Q3 while at the same time strengthening P1’s brand equity and consumer confidence.
P1’s Q3 performance is another impressive milestone, adding to an already long list of accomplishments this year considering it had just launched commercial service a mere 15 months ago. Just recently P1 was catapulted to the forefront of global WiMAX with the appointment of Michael Lai, P1 CEO, to the Board of Directors of the WiMAX Forum – an industry-led, not-for-profit organization formed to certify and promote the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon WiMAX.
Currently, P1 is the only telco in the region to be in the WiMAX Forum board. Together with other leading WiMAX operators, P1 will play a key role in shaping the future of 4G technologies for the world.
Now with a subscriber base of over 100,00 – arguably the largest WiMAX uptake relative to the population size in the world – P1 has further cemented its leadership role in the WiMAX world relentlessly working to seal Malaysia’s position as a global WiMAX hub.
“With this milestone achievement, P1 is on the right track to be one of the leading broadband service providers in the country. The team has worked tremendously hard for this and we will continue to work hard to build a solid relationship with our customers. We will stay committed to deliver ubiquitous, wireless, reliable Broadband for All with the performance that 4G WiMAX is specifically designed for. I would like to personally thank our customers for their support. They have showed that there is indeed a great demand for broadband in Malaysia. They have our commitment that we will strive to deliver what we promise,” commented Michael Lai, chief executive officer, P1.
P1 will continue to challenge the norms in the broadband market and offer innovative products and services to further underline its commitment as the leading WiMAX player and to achieve its ambitious 2009 targets.
P1 will also use this strong start to push the envelope further as it begins its regional expansion with the acquisition of a license to deploy WiMAX in Singapore, and network expansion to Sabah and Sarawak by the first half of 2010.
“We started from zero and in a span of little over a year we’ve grown to an impressive 100,000 subscribers. This is a feat by itself by any standards. Even more so, given our limited resources and coverage compared to the established broadband providers in the country. Our success so far is a measure of how much Malaysians want a compelling, reliable and strong alternative in high-speed broadband. With 4G WiMAX, we will deliver! ” Lai concluded.
